Hard to believe, but it’s been 11 years since we started Palmerworks Design.

In 2002, we began creating websites for local Maryland small business owners. We relocated to Michigan in 2006, and continued the business, developing sites for individuals and companies in the Detroit metropolitan area.

In the past 11 years, web design has evolved quite a bit. It’s no longer enough to develop a static site with html. We’ve added a variety of web platforms to our expertise, including responsive (mobile-friendly) websites, ecommerce sites, and learning management systems.

Rick enjoys laying out and designing the sites. It’s fun watching him develop an idea that a client responds to. He also loves creating projects for print: business cards, brochures, flyers, rack cards, signs, and — his favorite — newsletters. He juggles the work for three monthly Delta Airlines department publications and enjoys every minute of those layout, design, and writing tasks.

My favorite part is the writing: blogging for clients and writing content for websites. Making the words fit succinctly and editing down to the essence of what the webpage is about makes for an exciting project.

I also like the technical aspects involved in developing and maintaining sites. I actually enjoy trying to solve a coding issue in an online cart. Detecting why some element of a site doesn’t work, and even doing maintenance updates, appeals to the part of me that loves a good puzzle.

It was fun taking a look at our fledgling company website back in August 2002 at the Wayback Machine:

palmerworks-aug2002Current projects include websites for a fantastic cake decorator, a local Methodist church, and an ecommerce site. Keep those projects coming!
